The Pink Rose is the national flower of Bulgaria as the land is suitable for its cultivation. The Valley of Roses is an area that covers 1,200 square miles of land south of the Balkan Mountains. Its unique climate and soil favour the production of the rose-growing industry from which the famous rose oil is extracted.
It is estimated that approximately 1,000- 1,300 kg of oil per year are produced and thus the Bulgarian rose oil is placed among the most luxurious rose essence worldwide. The Bulgarian ‘Rosa Damascena’ Rose is recognized as the finest rose in the world with the most health and beauty applications. As a trademark of the country, the Bulgarian rose is celebrated during the first weekend of June in a very special ceremony called The Rose Festival, followed by traditional folk ceremonies.
